not a true citizen of the blogosphere yet… sorry?

Midnight ramblings

ok, so i have not quite been the blogging machine. my only excuse is that there’s just too much to do these days, and it’s hard to adjust to or put in place new routines when the old piles are climbing higher and higher.

i do have a backlog of musings that i will post in here. there is a way to backdate blog entries so that they will actually make chronological sense, even if i post them now, later, whenever. which is handy, i think.

TDoJB is doing well, settling in with all sorts of changes. we have some very cool new music that we are working on packaging to send off to some powers that be, and a bunch of new songs in the works. i have been working on new demos a lot lately, which is a great feeling. getting comfy with some new equipment and the new and more streamlined configuration of my apartment and home studio. and still making many home improvements. the band moved into a new space in the music building only a week or so ago and we are getting back into a rehearsal routine after being in the studio and then emerging from that. once again, too, there are only three of us, as we parted ways with cary a couple weeks ago, too. i have no regrets, about either playing with him for two years or not playing with him anymore. it was just time for another fork in the road, and our visions and his, both musical and otherwise, had been veering away from each other. the time in the studio and the preparation leading up to that cemented all this. i wish him the best. but now we are searching again. oh joy!

it’s not as bad as all that. i do find it inspiring and interesting, at least on a basic human/social level, to connect with new people and share ideas about music, the music business, and every other facet of life. but certainly if you have ever had experience recruiting a bandmate you know that it can suck, too. we are being rather meticulous about it to minimize the suckage factor, and hopefully that will work out in our favor. only time will tell. we are hoping that “time” is not interminable and that we find someone soon. but while we’re looking, geoff and i are developing our lean, mean, duo road machine, which seems to be getting more loopy and electronicky as things progress. and we are also prepping trio versions of our songs so we can play as a band if we want, too. after all, summer is coming soon. and we want to play. that is why we do this, no?

perhaps one reason i am not a more diligent blogger is that i still don’t know the tone of this thing. how personal should it get? how serious should i be? should it be all about the band, or should it go further and deeper (without inciting lawsuits, of course)? i am still finding my way here. perhaps those who read it will offer guidance.
